    • Hi! I am Ysa San Juan and I just finished my second year in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and I am about to start my third year in CEE this Fall 2022.

    • This summer, I went on my first MT in Daechon Beach last July 16 to 17. Jisun Lee, our representative from the CEE department planned and coordinated everything, with other students in our department’s student council.

    • Going into it, I knew our itinerary but I had no idea what an MT looked like in the first place so I was very excited. We met at the Duck Pond at KAIST at around 11:45 AM and left around 12 PM. Before going to the duck pond, other students and I volunteered to get some of our food from the CEE Lounge. Jisun and some other students also went to Homeplus to buy food and drinks 😉 for our trip.

    • We rented a bus and took around 3 hours to reach Daecheon. When we reached Daecheon, the driver got a bit confused with the way so we decided to go down from the bus and walk to find our Pension House. It was a bit a of walk so I felt bad for the students who had to carry our big box of food. Some of us helped by carrying the bottles of alcohol and water we brought.

    • Once we got to the pension house, we took a break and rested in the room for about 30 minutes cause we had to walk in the heat. We introduced ourselves and also drank some cold ade and coffee that some of us bought from the convenience store so that everyone could cool off before going to the beach.

    • After everyone changed and prepared we went to the beach. Our pension was not far from the beach front and also let us borrow some swim rings so that was great. We finally got to the beach. Some of us went directly to the water while others rented a umbrella and resting space cause of some us decided not to swim. It was my second time in Daecheon but first time coming to the beach with such a big group of people. We enjoyed the waves and took turns in riding the waves for the swim rings. It was so fun! The waves were huge!

    • After a round of swimming, we decided to bury someone in sand so we dug a hole big enough to fit a body and put all the sand back on him. We also drew abs on him. It was hilarious. He tried to get out but we kept on adding more sand so that it would not crack. We went for a second round of swimming to get all the sand of our bodies.

    • Some of us wanted to wash up so we decided to back to the pension in groups of 2 -3 people and then took turns in taking showers. It took a while for everyone to finish. I realized how big of a group we actually were. Once everyone freshened up, we had a barbeque night! One of the things I looked forward to the most! Everything tasted delicious! I also got to try and cook the meat and the vegetables.

    • After dinner, it was drinking time! An must-do MT activity! I only realized that day what MT actually meant and drinks are vital for that >-<

    • After packing dinner up, we noticed there was a firework show so we first went to the rooftop of our pension to watch them then headed near the beach front to get a better view and it was spectacular! After the firework show, we headed back to drink and play games.

    • We started to play games that Jisun and Jaewoo planned for all of us. We played a lot of team games like charades. We also played a game where we had to name things depending on categories such as ‘KAIST Basic Required Courses’ and ‘KAIST Departments’. We also played a drawing guessing game. Then the team with the lowest points for each game had to share and finish a bottle of soju. My team and I lost once so we had to drink ;-; Then, we proceeded with playing multiple Korean drinking games which was so fun! It was hard to understand at first but I ended up getting it!

    • I slept early at around 2:30 AM but I woke up slightly at 4:00 and I still heard a lot of people chatting and having fun!

    • Sadly, our MT was coming to an end and we had to check out of the room at 11:00 AM and left Daecheon at around the same time. We got back on campus around 1 and said our goodbyes at the duck pond!

    • Overall, it was such an amazing experience I cannot wait to do this every year with all the undergraduate students in our department!
