우리 학과 재학생 5명으로 구성된 팀이, Urban Land Institute and Hines (ULI하인즈)가 주최한 도시 설계 학생 경진대회에 참가 하였습니다.
올해 처음으로 아시아 태평양 지역권의 공모전이 열렸으며, 이 공모전은 수백명의 지원자가 참여하는 부동산 분야의 국제적으로 인정받는 행사로 잘 알려져 있습니다. Jonah Remigio 석사과정생 노소정 석사과정생, Estefania Rodriguez 석사 과정생, 강지현 석사과정생 그리고 Ayantu Teshome학부생 으로 구성된 팀은 한동훈 교수, 김영철 교수의 지도와 조언을 기반으로 싱가폴 Jurong 지역에서 보다 지속 가능하고, 풍요로운 삶을 살 수있는 부동산 사업 전략을 제안하였습니다. 싱가포르 내의 빅 데이터를 분석하여, Jurong 지역의 삶과 질, 그리고 경제발전에 도움이 될 수 있는 전략을 도출 하였고, 이것을 바탕으로 의료혁신 및 지속 가능한 기술이 통합된 복합용도의 부동산 사업 계획을 제시 하였습니다. 또한, Jurong 강의 특성을 잘 활용한 워터 프론트 개발 디자인을 통하여, 도시 한 가운데에서 즐길 수 있는 경치 및 자연을 품은 거주 공간 디자인도 제시 하였습니다. KAIST 팀의 전략과 결과물은 인정을 받아 파이널 리스트에 뽑혀, 최종 2위를 차지 했습니다.

A team of five students from our department were awarded second place in a premier urban design student competition hosted by the Urban Land Institute and Hines. The competition, which was held for the first time in the Asia-Pacific region, is an internationally recognized event which typically attract hundreds of applicants. The team of Jonah Remigio, Sojung Noh, Estefania Rodriguez, Jihyun Kang, and Ayantu Teshome were supported by faculty advisors Dr. Albert Han and Dr. Youngchul Kim to imagine a more sustainable and enriched way of living in the Jurong district of Singapore. Their submission analyzed big data within Singapore, using the data to determine which real estate business strategies would best enhance the quality of living and economy of the region. Their final design utilized mixed-use zoning to integrate the site’s scenic waterfront with homes, medical innovation, and sustainable technology, altogether creating a place to innovate, inhabit, and immerse. Ultimately, the team was recognized for their hard work and determination, putting South Korea’s foot in the door of future scholastic achievement.
